050 Leda get's raped by a Zeus Swan

Huzzah my 50th blog post!

Oh Zeus, you Casanova, what is with you and raping women and boys in weird ways? It's genius if you think about it, the Greeks seemed to know that if their gods were basically all powerful beings that acted human, then they would probably be absolutely drunk and corrupted with ultimate power. And since Zeus was king of the gods, he would be the most corrupt and decadent of them all. He is like Caligula turned up to te- no eleven and is all powerful. This still doesn't explain why he has such eccentric fetishes, but I guess the Greeks have a weird sense of humor or were sick perverts. Anyway this story has some connections to the Trojan War as it is the story of Helen's mom and how she got pregnant after getting the royal treatment by the Sultan of Smut, the Godly gigolo, the Regent of Rapists, ladies and gentleman all bow down to your lustful lord; Zeus! *70's dating game show theme begins to play*

So tomorrow I'll be fuc- I mean looking over the women of Sparta

049 Zeus likes the little boys

Oh those wacky Ancient Greeks, why else do you think a lot of the sexual fetishes use the Greek word -philia in the end? Now in those times what we call pedophilia was called pederasty which was a socially acknowledged relationship between an adult and a younger male usually in his teens. Scholars have debated the role or extent of sexual activity, which is likely to have varied according to local custom and individual inclination. The English word "pederasty" in present-day usage implies the abuse of minors, but Athenian law, for instance, does not recognize consent and age as factors in regulating sexual behavior. I think however classical historian Robin Osbourne  puts it best:

"It is the historian's job to draw attention to the personal, social, political and indeed moral issues behind the literary and artistic representations of the Greek world. The historian's job is to present pederasty and all, to make sure that … we come face to face with the way the glory that was Greece was part of a world in which many of our own core values find themselves challenged rather than reinforced."

However because I'm not as mature as this historian I will still say that this story is:
Sadly I couldn't find a drawing of him in a toga, oh well.

048The torment of Orestes

In this Superbowl hangover day, I will either be depressed or extremely ecstatic, so it is a good thing that I'm not watching the big game (Go Steelers)  and it is also a good thing that I write these blogs on Sunday before publishing them on Monday. Now that I have given you some insight on my work schedule, let us finally put to rest the tragic story of Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, and Orestes. (oh and Electra also)
Eek snakes!!!

047 The Revenge of Agamemnon

Now after making a blog for the sole purpose of making fun of the fallen New York Jets and that loudmouth Rex Ryan, I wish to return your attention to the second part of the tragedy that is Agamemnon's murder and revenge.
Man that woman is crazy!
