046-The Fall of Icarus

I decided to postpone the story of Orestes' revenge and instead decided to educate you all on a story about hubris, when the brash fall do to their arrogance. But enough of the 2010-11 New York Jets, this is the story of Icarus and what happens when you fly too close to the sun.

045 The Murder of Agamemnon

Eons ago in May 30, 2010 I released this blog detailing the sacrifice of Agamemnon's daughter Iphigenia. http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/blogs/myblogs/entry/dmog-agamemnon-and-iphigenia Needless to say that Clytemnestra, Agamemnon's wife, was not entirely pleased with her husband taking the life of their daughter so that he could go to war with a far off kingdom. So here is the tragic results of the king's actions, which would only lead to more death and tragedy to this once happy family. Now if you are one of those who are just getting into Greek Mythology and the only experience with Agamemnon is Brian Cox's portrayal  in Troy then you are doing it wrong, very wrong. This:

044 Oedpius finds who killed his father

So after that deluge on the founding of Thebes, I want to finish the story of Oedipus. A tale so messed up that it inspired Sigmund Freud to invent the term Oedipus Complex which is as Wikipedia puts it: "is a group of largely unconscious (dynamically repressed) ideas and feelings which concentrate on the desire to possess the parent of the opposite sex and eliminate the parent of the same sex."
Now after that useless bit of information (Well actually that is a bit helpful in understanding the context of this mindfuck of a tale) anyway lets recap the events so far with pictures (Yay! Pictures make Bomar happy!)

043 The Draconic Founding of Thebes

I love stories about the foundations of cities, it is always fun to see what kind of tales did the ancients made to explain the birth of their towns. So while I was thinking of finishing the story of Oedipus, I remembered another good story about Thebes, the legendary founding of the city by the hero Cadmus. Don't worry, I'll make sure of it that we finish Oedipus' story and then discuss the great story of the epic Seven Against Thebes. For now however, let us get to the roots of Thebes history, let us go to the very foundation of a city.
